Virgo New Moon

As we emerge from the haze of Mercury retrograde, the Virgo New Moon invites us to recalibrate and refocus. This lunar phase marks a powerful moment for getting back to work with renewed clarity and determination.

With both the Sun and Moon in meticulous Virgo, the emphasis is on perfecting something by attending to the finer details. Yet, the influence of Saturn in Pisces reminds us to align these details with a greater vision, creating something not just flawless but meaningful.

I attribute the saying ‘you can’t see the forest for the trees’ to Virgo. Across from Virgo is its opposite sign of Pisces, a sign I like to think of as the ‘forest.’ While Virgo pays attention to the details of each tree, Pisces represents the unity of the forest. In this lunation, we can benefit from paying attention to the forest and the trees.

This New Moon is about finding the balance between micro-management and macro-thinking, ensuring that the steps we take now build a solid foundation for long-term success. The season and we are changing—it's time to refine, reimagine, and rise.

Sun and Moon in the sign of Virgo

Virgo keywords: Organization, practicality, attention to detail, health and well-being, service, sensuality, analytical, efficient, reliable

Virgo Earth Element sign: Operates on practicality, methodical, precise

Virgo Mutable Modality: Flexible, adaptable, resourceful, versatile

Virgo Archetypes: The Service Provider, Perfectionist, Healer, Analyst

Virgo Sun and New Moon: Opposite Saturn T-square Jupiter

The New Moon kicks off a new productive cycle with Mercury now direct as of August 28th. This Virgo New Moon is ready to dive into the to-do list with renewed energy and precision.

Opposing this diligent Virgo energy, Saturn stands as a reminder not to rush the process, every step matters as much as the final destination. Saturn in Pisces urges us to keep our focus on the broader goal, ensuring that our efforts align with a greater purpose.

Meanwhile, Jupiter, the planet of growth and expansion, enhances this vision with new and creative ideas, especially in Gemini, the sign ruled by Mercury. With the Sun and Moon in Virgo, also Mercury’s domain, we’re equipped to handle the details, ensuring that nothing is overlooked as we build toward something truly impactful.

Watch out for being overly critical towards yourself or others. Also be aware that others may be more critical of you. September is a month where we can see too much focus on being perfect. The better approach is to see the world full of perfectly imperfect human beings.

Virgo New Moon Sextile Jupiter and Mars

As the Moon enters her New Moon phase in Virgo, she swiftly forms a sextile with Jupiter, highlighting a moment of optimism, growth, and expansive vision. A caution against overconfidence is advised.

Soon after, she forms a harmonious sextile with Mars, infusing it with a sense of urgency and action just before Mars transitions into a new sign, signaling a dynamic push toward taking action. You may feel a sense of urgency in doing something as Mars is preparing to change signs.

You may struggle with having to choose between two different actions with time to only complete one thing. This sense of urgency is common when a planet travels through the last degree of a sign.

Mercury Retrograde

As the ruler of the Virgo New Moon, Mercury plays a pivotal role in the unfolding astrological landscape. Having just gone direct on August 28th, Mercury is now moving forward, but it is still in its post-shadow phase. It has now started to revisit the territory it covered during its retrograde.

This is a crucial period for integrating the lessons learned during its retrograde journey. The retrograde likely brought to light old patterns, miscommunications, and areas in need of refinement or realignment. Now, with Mercury retracing its steps forward, it’s time to apply these insights, make necessary adjustments, and move forward with renewed clarity.

On September 9th, Mercury will re-enter Virgo, as it continues to retrace the zodiac path of its retrograde for the third and final time of this cycle. The post-shadow phase of the cycle ends on September 12.

It’s essential during this phase to balance the meticulous focus of Virgo with the broader vision that Jupiter and Saturn have highlighted. By keeping the big picture in mind while ensuring every detail is attended to, you can move forward with confidence, knowing that no steps have been missed and no detail overlooked.

Mercury Square Uranus

Adding to the dynamic, Mercury is applying to a square with Uranus, the planet of sudden change and disruption. In this tense aspect, particularly with both planets in fixed signs, Mercury in Leo and Uranus in Taurus, there’s a strong call to break free from old habits and outdated ways of thinking.

This square may bring unexpected events or shifts, but these disruptions are necessary for growth. Uranus pushes for innovation, while Mercury, freshly direct, is eager to implement these changes. This energy can feel unsettling, but it’s a powerful time to embrace new perspectives and make bold decisions.

Venus Enters Libra

Venus moves into Libra, one of her signs of rulership, placing her in a position of strength and harmony. In Libra, Venus can effortlessly express her true nature, bringing grace, beauty, and balance to the areas of your chart ruled by this sign.

To make the most of Venus in Libra, focus on activities that bring you pleasure and enhance your sense of beauty, both inside and out. This period is ideal for making adjustments that boost your self-esteem, mediating relationship issues with diplomacy, and enjoying sweet, fun moments with your romantic partner.

It’s also a favorable time for making decisions that require fairness and tact.

Pluto Retrogrades Into Capricorn

Pluto retrogrades into Capricorn for the final time on September 2, just a day before the New Moon. If you have placements in the late degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn), this transit will likely activate significant areas of your chart, but not for the first time.

Check to see if your chart has placements in 28-29 degrees of the Cardinal signs. Reflect on the past 1-2 years. What major transformations have occurred in your life?

This last Pluto visit to Capricorn marks the conclusion of that transformative process. After Pluto goes direct and re-enters Aquarius on November 19, it will not return to Capricorn in our lifetime. The full impact of these changes may not be immediately apparent, but over time, the depth of transformation will become clear.

Mars Moves Into Cancer

Mars moves into Cancer on September 4, shortly after the New Moon in Virgo. With Mars in Gemini, you may have experienced scattered energy, needing to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously in August.

Plus while Mars was traveling through Gemini, its ruler Mercury was retrograde, making it difficult to find clarity on where to focus your physical energy.

When Mars changes signs from Gemini to Cancer, this energy becomes more focused, though less direct. Mars in Cancer encourages a shift toward meaningful work and a greater ability to ignore distractions.

However, for Mars, the planet of action and directness, Cancer is not its most comfortable sign. As a result, actions may become more passive-aggressive during this transit, which lasts until Mars moves into Leo on November 5.

Mars Retrograde

Looking ahead, Mars will retrograde from December 6 through February 24, 2025, a cycle that occurs every two years. During this retrograde, Mars will move back from Leo into Cancer, where it will stay for most of its retrograde duration.

The themes and issues that arise in late September, October, and November may resurface during the Mars retrograde period. Unlike Mercury retrograde, which affects communication and logistics, Mars retrograde impacts our energy and actions.

You may feel a decrease in motivation or recognize the need to eliminate certain distractions from your routine to focus on what truly matters during the retrograde.

Pay attention to what is happening with your physical energy and where you are applying it. This information will be valuable for you to reflect on during the Mars retrograde cycle.
