Capricorn Full Moon Overview
As the Capricorn Full Moon culminates this weekend, we are in a whirlwind of cosmic activity. The alignments of the planets create an intense energetic backdrop, stirring the pot with idea overload, creativity, and heightened verbal aggression.
In Aquarius, a sign of independence and innovation, Pluto, the generator of change, makes a trine to Mars opening an easy flow of assertion, aggression and power struggles.
Meanwhile, Mercury, the planet of communication, makes a tense square to Uranus, the disrupter. Pluto Mars combined with Mercury Uranus is the perfect setting for an escalation of arguments.
Mercury and Uranus are in fixed signs, Leo and Taurus, bringing a stubborn and explosive nature to ideas, beliefs, and ideals and how they are communicated. Pluto is in the fixed sign Aquarius. Pluto is about power and a harbinger of great change.
Avoiding conflict and power struggles will be less difficult during this time period. Feuding over an issue shows that both sides think they are right and won't budge. Compromise or even listening to another viewpoint with an open mind is very difficult.
With action-oriented Mars approaching expansion-oriented Jupiter, ideology drives the stubborn nature of righteousness, which will be obvious in the news and social media. That’s why the rest of this week and this weekend are great times to take a wellness break from both.
‘Think before you speak, and don’t say everything you think.’ -Alexander Lebed
The mix of these configurations is like an electric current that can spark and escalate aggressive interactions at any time. You can't control others, but you can control how you respond. This is how you can take control of the astrological conditions of the full moon.
Words become weapons, ideologies clash, and the truth seems elusive amidst the noise. However, within this tumultuous period lies an opportunity for profound growth and transformation.
To navigate this challenging astrological period, we must first acknowledge the intensity of the energies at play and prepare to embrace them. Understanding the astrological influences helps you recognize what is activated in your chart and avoid falling into reactive patterns.
Instead of getting swept up in propaganda or engaging in fruitless debates, remove yourself from contentious conversations (aka power struggles). Practice active listening and maintain a grounded perspective to see through the confusion and connect with the core truths.
Active listening is when you let the other person finish their thought. You are attentive to what they say (not thinking about how you will respond). You respond to what they are saying by reflecting back on what you heard and making eye contact.
Talking at people rather than talking with them is a great approach. But others may not be interested in hearing another viewpoint, different from their own. You are unlikely to persuade them, and in that situation, it's better not to engage.
Remember that each person’s chart can be activated differently. You can’t control what others do or say, but you can control how you respond.
Here are some strategies to work with the current energies:
Mindful Communication: Be deliberate with your words. Before speaking or writing, take a moment to reflect on your intentions. Aim for clarity and compassion in your interactions, avoiding inflammatory language or assumptions.
Embrace Change: Uranus encourages us to break free from outdated patterns. Use this time to innovate and think outside the box. Embrace new ideas, but scrutinize them carefully before adopting them as your own.
Grounding Practices: With so much mental activity, staying grounded is crucial. Engage in activities that connect you to the earth, such as walking in nature, gardening, or practicing grounding meditation techniques.
Empower Yourself: Pluto's influence can bring power dynamics to the forefront. Focus on empowering yourself and others through knowledge and integrity. Avoid manipulative tactics and strive for equitable solutions in conflicts.
Channel Mars Energy Productively: Mars in Gemini can be impulsive and scattered. Channel this energy into physical activity or creative projects that require focus and precision.
Expand with Caution: Jupiter’s expansive energy can lead to overcommitting or overextending yourself. Set realistic goals and prioritize your tasks to avoid burnout.
By staying mindful, you can transform this period of chaos into a time of meaningful progress and personal empowerment. The Capricorn Full Moon reminds us that even in the midst of upheaval, we have the power to create personal stability.
Full Moon Symbolism
Full Moons symbolize releasing, culmination, endings, compromise, making choices, and bursting with energy. They illuminate the nature of the Moon’s sign through the Sun and the sign it is in. The days around a Full Moon are rich with mature energy and wisdom.
Capricorn Moon and Cancer Sun: 29th Anaretic Degree
The Full Moon in Capricorn and the Sun in Cancer are in the critical 29th degree. This signifies endings and change. The 29th degree, known as the anaretic degree, highlights a sense of urgency, finality, and transformation.
When the outer planets Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto travel through this degree, it marks historical times of great change. We have been experiencing Pluto at 29 degrees of Capricorn over months of time in 2023 and 2024 due to its retrograde cycle.
The last time Pluto will spend time at 29 degrees Capricorn is September, October and most of November. That's why this full Moon at 29 Capricorn has such a striking energy about it. It activates this sensitive part of the zodiac due to Pluto's presence.
Historically, the end of a sign is a critical juncture for change. It's like a pressure or tipping point. A final effort, but significant change is imminent. It's not surprising to see the political upheaval we are seeing worldwide. Big change takes time, and it is associated with Pluto.
Second Consecutive Capricorn Full Moon
This is the second consecutive Full Moon in Capricorn, emphasizing significant change. If you have personal planets or points in the late degrees of the cardinal signs Aries, Cancer, Libra, or Capricorn, your chart is highly activated by the Capricorn Full Moon.
This configuration also indicates the tension we see playing out on the world stage. It is a contentious time for many countries experiencing wars, environmental disasters, climate change, and general unrest of people. To understand the context of this second consecutive Capricorn full Moon, we look to Pluto.
Pluto wraps up its long visit to Capricorn, starting in 2008, and makes its last dip into Capricorn later this year. Pluto has been transitioning to Aquarius this year, as its retrograde cycle has it traveling between the two signs. When Pluto retrogrades back to Capricorn, it will go to 29 degrees of Capricorn.
This second, rare consecutive full Moon is happening in Capricorn at 29 degrees. Nature, through the stars, is highlighting this significant shift of power. Pluto is about power, and those losing power grip it as tightly as possible.
Attempts to hold onto power may be strong and even successful, but not for the long term. Change is coming whether we want it or not. That’s why learning to embrace change is one of the best tools for the times ahead.
Outer Planet Shifts: Pluto, Neptune, Uranus
The transition from Capricorn to Aquarius is a major shift in the world, one that takes a long time to unfold. Over the next 20 years, we will see themes related to humanitarian efforts. Power centers will be diffused, changing hands from the elite at the top to groups.
With any significant power change comes disruption (Uranus), confusion (Neptune), and destruction (Pluto) to break up the old and make room to build the new. We are at the beginning of this major power shift, with all three outer planets changing signs over the next two years.
Pluto has been a major highlight of astrological conversations as it makes its way into Aquarius. You will be hearing more about Uranus moving from Taurus to Gemini in July of 2025.
Because of its retrograde cycle, Uranus will dip back into Taurus over a transitional period, and we can expect some upheaval and change related to the critical 29th degree of Taurus.
Neptune will also be changing signs. After moving into Pisces in February of 2012, it will move into the sign of Aries at the end of March 2025. It will retrograde back into Pisces before moving into Aries for its long visit. When that is happening, the critical 29th degree of Pisces will be activated.
When the outer planets retrograde and go direct, changing signs in the process, we are shown how the old and new ways collide, pushing people to take sides and focus on differences. Once the outer planet gets fully into the next sign, it can get to work on updating what didn’t work before and create new paths forward.
Astrology is a helpful tool for making sense of times of great change. Just like these major sign changes with slow-moving planets indicate sweeping change, the same thing can be indicated in your personal chart. This will impact your chart if you have placements in the very last (27-29) or first (0-2) degrees of a sign.

Capricorn Full Moon Planetary Influences
The outer planets Pluto, Neptune, and Uranus all make exact (partile) aspects with other planets during the Full Moon making this lunation active, tense, creative and confusing.
Mercury will already have started its pre-shadow phase preparing for retrograde at the beginning of August. Here are the configurations:
Sun, Moon, Neptune
The Sun is partile trine Neptune, and the Capricorn Full Moon is partile sextile Neptune. This can enhance intuitive and compassionate responses or indicate confusion, illusion, and deception. Escapism may be prevalent (addiction, binge-watching media).
It’s a good time to invest in self-care and well-being.
Uranus Sextile Sun and Trine Moon
Facilitates sudden insights and innovative ideas. This fades quickly after the full Moon as both the Sun and Moon will change signs within a day after the full Moon culminates. Over the full Moon weekend, it can indicate more chaos and sudden unexpected twists.
If it's not active in your chart, nothing may come up for you. It's likely that there will be some increased chaos under the full Moon in the world around. For example, if you work in a service oriented environment like a hospital, you may see increased chaotic situations.
Mars and Pluto
Mars forms an exact (partile) trine to Pluto during the Capricorn Full Moon. A trine indicates an easy flow of energy between the two planets, and Mars with Pluto can be overwhelmingly powerful.
As Mars moves from Pluto toward expansion-oriented Jupiter, the themes prevalent at the full Moon will likely grow and intensify.
The Mars trine Pluto aspect adds assertion or possibly aggression to Mercury trine Uranus, resulting in powerful ideas bursting onto the scene. A diverse range of ideas and opinions will likely become overwhelming and create a chaotic atmosphere, mainly through the use of technology.
It's important to note that the days before the full Moon, Mars made an exact conjunction with Uranus in the sign of Taurus. This was a mix for aggravation and frustration. Mars Uranus is a time of increased accidents, electrical problems and explosions (literal or figurative).
Mercury Square Uranus
Following the Mars-Uranus conjunction on July 15, the Mercury-Uranus square sparks explosive, innovative ideas. The Mars-Pluto trine enhances Mercury's communicative strength in a tense square with Uranus, creating an explosive combination of words.
Mercury Retrograde Cycle
Mercury entered its shadow phase on July 17, adding to the potential for miscommunication and technological disruptions.
Pre-Shadow: July 17
Retrograde: August 5
Direct: August 28
Post-Shdow: September 12
Degrees: 4.06 Virgo - 21.25 Leo
Mercury retrograde is a time to review, reflect and realign. I have a free Mercury retrograde workbook and guide that you can access here:
Mars, Jupiter, Saturn
Mars moves into Gemini on July 20, a day before the full Moon. It makes aspects with Pluto and heads toward a conjunction with Jupiter and a square with Saturn, amplifying verbal aggression and ideological clashes. Mars will conjunct Jupiter on August 14 and square retrograde Saturn on August 15.
Mars conjunct Jupiter in Gemini and square Saturn intensifies ideological battles. With Gemini ruler Mercury in its retrograde cycle, August will likely bring a chaotic atmosphere filled with powerful, conflicting ideas that gained steam after the contentious second Capricorn full Moon on July 21.
Mars' assertive energy and Jupiter's expansive influence can lead to heated debates and conflicts, while Saturn indicates limits, restrictions, and delays. Mercury retrograde brings an introspective mood and possibly some time to heal from verbal wounds.
Jupiter Square Saturn (applying)
Frustration and confusion increase as ideologies clash. This aspect underscores the need for patience and caution in navigating disagreements.
Sun Opposite Pluto
Right after the Capricorn Full Moon culminates, the Sun and Moon will change signs. The Sun in Leo will oppose Pluto, retrograde at 0 degrees Aquarius, and the Moon in Aquarius will conjunct it. This aspect emphasizes power struggles compelling us to confront hidden truths and dynamics in relationships.
Sun Sextile Mars:
Shortly after the full Moon, the Sun moves into Leo, making a harmonious sextile with Mars. This aspect enhances drive and motivation, working together with Pluto's transformative energy to push us toward decisive actions and breakthroughs.

Things to Do under the Capricorn Full Moon
Do a full moon ritual using Capricorn’s element, earth. Use my free guide with a ritual for each element by clicking here.
Take a break from the news and social media. Avoid overstimulating your mind.
With the intense mental energy of the full moon, it can be easy to get drawn into aggressive or overly idealistic conversations. Use this energy better and get busy on projects that require your mind to generate ideas and require physical action to complete the work.
Use mindful approaches to daily living. Learn more here.
Put effort into something. Capricorn is a sign that is willing to do the hard work as it focuses on the payoff at the end. The full Moon can be a time when it’s easy to be pulled into a drama situation. Avoid it and put that energy into something that will pay off for you in the long run.
Your nervous system may be overtaxed with all this mental and physical energy exertion. Try to avoid people, places, and things that tend to stir up your anger and frustration. Channel this highly creative energy into something that will help you.
Take a wellness break from the news and social media. Spend your time with people who don’t constantly talk about politics or the news. Invite some of your friends to do the wellness break with you.
Get active. Go out and move your body. With the Sun in Cancer, if you can get to a body of water and walk along it barefoot, you would be combining the water and earth element of the Full Moon.
Another way to work with the two elements is to take a salt bath with high-quality herbs. It is even better if they are fresh herbs from your garden.
